By 2012, while the US Government will be in political control of the distribution of 75% of the world's food supply, Red China will be in control of the distribution of 75% of the world's petroleum. The 2020s will be the dangerous period in human history - that's when World War III occurs. There will be a war between Israel and Iraq over water. Future colonization in the direction of the constellation of Aquarius will fail, but colonization in the direction of the constellation of Cancer will be the salvation of humanity.

Try to get 30 feet of rock protection. * Get well water in granite. * Try not to be above 3,000 altitude. * Once the ozone layer is blown off, don't stay outside for more than 20 minutes each day. * Harvest blue-green algae in fresh water. * Try to get your above ground structures to be very aerodynamic (wind resistant). * Get a ham radio, have it run on solar power, and have it protected in a metal shield. * Be a team player with your local community. * Wise relocation areas are Alaska and eastern Vancouver to the western Rockies. * Eventually, the breadbasket will move from the central U.S. to south central Canada.
Instead of houseboats, try house submarines. Or at least design your house boat like the Merrimac, of Civil War fame, so that the sloped sides makes it wind resistant.
