CAREER QUEST with Andrew Homer
Other career counselors focus on the small picture. They're goal oriented and primarily stress strategy and logistics of the job hunt. I prefer to pay attention to the more important picture of who you are. I want to help you to help yourself to maximize your impact of your sharing your unique gift with the world.
Victor Hugo said that "The greatest thing in life is knowing that we are loved." But I can't love someone else if I don't love myself. I can't sincerely respect someone else if I don't sincerely respect myself. Treat others with respect and insist on getting respect from others at your place of employment. Show me the job description that states that you don't deserve it.
"To love is to work." - Freud "Make your life's love your life's work." "Follow your passion." There are jobs, then there are careers, "Thine own self be true." Money isn't the most important issue to focus on regarding career selection. A wholesome person wants to make a positive difference in the world. When you feel saturated with the goodness in life, you want to share your joy and goodness with others.
Anyone can make money. You have a unique talent that you're driven to develop and share with others. You're a survivor until you're dead. So, do what you want. Don't sabotage fulfilling your personal quest with "shoulds" that other people lay on you. If you aren't living your life for yourself,
Frustrated love becomes rage. Too often we rage against others and ourselves. Too often I've seen that we alienate people in our lives by being alcoholics or rage-aholics.
If you focus on what you love: You'll spend more time on it, you'll get good at it, eventually you'll be better at it than others are, then you'll deserve a better income. Besides, what's life about other than enjoying what you're doing anyways? Success is a process, not a goal. That's why it's so crucial to do something that you get satisfaction from doing it. Not just because of the pay. Follow your bliss. But realize that an employer is hiring you because you're either going to make them money or save them money. A lot of employees succeed in bluffing their boss that they're making or saving money for their employer. But for how long?
A healthy love life is conducive to getting grounded in your career goals. The communication skills that makes one a winner in the bedroom are akin to the communication skills that makes one a winner in the boardroom. Always arrange agreements to be a win-win situation. Multiply the number of eyes that are on the outlook for you. When you're house hunting or job hunting, tell everyone you know. Get stability into your life. Look at the game plan of having wholesome career development akin to the game plan of wholesome relationships. The more we're on a spiritual track, the fewer mistakes we make. Or rather the more we LEARN from our mistakes. Develop a support group. If you don't have the support of a big family or living in a commune, than go to church on a regular basis.
Timing is a valid component of success. To find out about the timing as to when to take action, see my other webpage - Wealth Astrology. There are some environments more conducive to what you want to achieve. To find out more about where in the world you would more likely have the winds in your sails to pursue a specific career, see my other web page - Travel Astrology. I believe that the smartest support group one can have is to be a member of a cooperative, to be co-owner of the company that you're working for, rather that having most of the profit that your labor generates being skimmed off by stockholders. See my other web page - CoOperative Alliance. Our ancestors were authorities on the perfect support group - the extended family. I'm trying to recruit a sort of extended family: a commune and cooperative. See my other web page - Bahaifa.
Star Resumes A resume will never get you the job you're seeking. What a good resume should
achieve is to get you in for an interview. Most job hunters don't realize that the usual resume does more harm
then good. Interviewers use them to weed-out the applicants to decide who NOT to interview. A Star Resume accenuates
the positive, leaves out the negative, and piques the curiosity of the interviewer to call you in for an interview.
