Bahaifa Notices Bahaifa - New Mexico COORDINATORS Andrew Homer and Marcella Hamilton are a married couple who are members of the Baha'i Faith temple in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In fact that's where we met. Believers of the importance of teamwork and community, we've formulated a multi-faceted project to be centered in the high desert of New Mexico with it's year-round overall mellow climate. CLIMATE concerns of southern New Mexico don't include hurricanes, tornadoes, serious snow, nor serious earthquakes. Summers are mellow since that's the usual rainy season. COMMUNES are the most practical way for people to live. Natural resources are saved by the reduction of the redundancy of consumer products. Children have more options for selecting wholesome role-models. SPIRITUAL VALUES seem to be the requirement for a lasting commune. Most communes that aren't spiritually based fold within 20 years. Exceptions are The Farm in Tennessee and More University in California. SENIORS consider climate a very important issue, since the ideal climate helps to minimize utility costs. Also, for health considerations, the elderly can do without seasonal temperature extremes. CONSTRUCTION of any new dwellings will focus on the latest discoveries of low cost material that is VERY well insulated. ENERGY will be provided as much as possible by alternative sources such as solar power and wind power. In fact we may even sell surplus energy that we generate to PNM. FARMS will be organic and will have dwarf fruit trees for maximum productivity per acre and we'll have bee hives to assist pollination. INCOME SUPPLEMENT will be provided by our own cooperatively owned businesses to defray our expenses and reduce the costs for our commune or cooperative partners. MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA: gender equity and sincerity of spiritual growth. GOVERNMENT is self-rule democracy. However each site wants to conduct themselves. CEMETARY plots will be available at our Socorro location, since it's central between our other sites in southern New Mexico. SUGGESTIONS are greatly appreciated. Housing for 100 partners in central New Mexico. In the Zamora, Cedar Crest, Tijearas, San Antonio, Mountainair, Placitas, Madrid, and Moriarty region surrounding Albuquerque. Since Albuquerque has a population of 520,000 and has a major airport, it seems to be the logical locale to start our first Bahaifa project. One example of development could be to build two apartment buildings with a quarter Olympic size pool. We'll have administrative offices, classrooms, community kitchen, meeting hall, exercise room, lobby shop, car maintenance rack, storage, and nurse's facility. Another example could be to buy one quadplex at a time and use the equity as downpayment to acquire the next quadplex, etc. Plan by Year 2008 BAHAIFA TWO: Housing for 100 partners on 100 acres near Socorro, midway between Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Near the Rio Grande is where we'll start the Bahaifa Farm. Our more rugged partners may chose to stay busy gathering eggs, milking the cows, or harvesting the orchard. Plan by Year 2013 BAHAIFA THREE: Housing for 100 partners on a hundred acres in the mountainous Cloudcroft-Ruidoso area in southern New Mexico. Surrounded by an evergreen forest, here's where our nature lover partners may chose to relocate to take up gardening, fishing, or horseback riding. We'll get 100 acres for a fruit orchard. Plan by Year 2018 BAHAIFA FOUR: Residential hotel and farm. Housing for 100 partners on 100 acres outside of the college town of Las Cruces, in south central New Mexico. Less than an hour away is the major airport of El Paso, Texas. Chile verde, anyone? Your Plans? We need 98 partners (gender equal), to send $250 per month to buy their prorated share of the Bahaifa cooperative so that we can soon buy the property for two buildings in Albuquerque. The first building will have offices and 50 apartments. Just as soon as that building is fully occupied, we'll start construction on the next building with a cafeteria and 50 apartments. After that building is fully occupied, we'll dig the pool. Marcella and I will be the initial managers of the Albuquerque Bahaifa, but we'll pass the baton to another couple to co-manage Albuquerque Bahaifa when we move on to spearhead Socorro Bahaifa.
